Allstar Mounds have not experienced a backorder in years. We keep plenty in stock and can typically fill all orders and have them shipped within 2 - 3 business days of the order being placed. Transit time can vary.
We have four different heights of pitching mounds.. 4", 6", 8", and 10". The height of pitching mound that you need depends on the age group that your working with. Some areas and leagues are more strict on these rules than others, but here is a generic guideline to go by.
4" - Under 8 yrs old
6" - 8 to 12 yrs old
8" - 13 to 14 yrs old
10" - 15 yrs old and older
You can, but steel cleats will definitely shorten the life span of the turf. We use the highest quality turf that is on the market, 60 ounce knitted nylon Astroturf. This turf is tough, but to maximize the life span of your mound, we highly suggest using turf shoes. Any company suggesting their product is steel cleat proof is not being honest, there is no turfed product that is stronger than steel.
This obviously varies based on how the pitching mound is being used. If you're purchasing for a small to medium size park hosting baseball tournaments and practice sessions, Allstar Mounds will last well beyond it's warranty as long as the pitching mound is used as intended. Allstar Mounds have a 5 year warranty on the fiberglass shell, this does not extend to the turf, which can wear down over time.
Our pitching mounds are very low maintenance. You can stand these up against a wall or fence, lay them in the floor somewhere, or just leave them out on the field all year. Our pitching mounds are completely weather resistant and they will not deform and lose their shape from standing on their edge.
